Toshkent — Markaziy Osiyodagi eng koʻp aholi yashaydigan shahar va Oʻzbekiston Respublikasining siyosiy, iqtisodiy, madaniy va ilmiy markazi. Rasmiy maʼlumotlarga koʻra, Toshkentda 3 millionga yaqin aholi istiqomat qiladi. Bu zamonaviy shahar mamlakatimizning shimoli-sharqiy qismida, Chirchiq vodiysida, dengiz sathidan 480 metr balandlikda, G‘arbiy Tyan-Shan tog‘ etaklarida joylashgan. Zamonaviy Toshkentning tarixi ikki ming yildan ortiqroqqa borib taqaladi.

The name of the city was first mentioned in written documents at the beginning of the 11th century. Abu Rayhan Beruni states that the word comes from the Turkish words "Tash", meaning "Stone", and "Kent", meaning "City". So, Tashkent means “Stone City”. However, the first component of this name is believed to be more ancient and goes back to the word “Chach”, which later became “Tash” among the Arabs due to the absence of the letter “N” in their language and writing.
